Am I the only one who thinks this plan is flawed? My first question would be, “When are the record labels going to start sharing revenue with the bands”? There are many indie bands out there NOT affiliated with record labels who get plenty of airplay. So what is YOUTUBE going to do to protect their rights?

This is not a case of YOUTUBE protecting the rights of the bands. It’s a case of the record companies throwing their weight around with threats of lawsuits. Bands don’t make SHIT from online downloads or even online legal downloads. This only protects the interests of the record companies who were screwing the bands to begin with and now they’ve found another hole to screw them in with downloads. The bands get promotional value out of these downloads just like they would get from radio play. But if a record company is going to get money for a download then so should the band. And I’m going to stand up and say “That’s not right”. If you’re in a band and thinking of signing a deal with a financial backer make sure you’re not going to get screwed. It would be much better in the long run if you just build your band yourself as a business and let it grow like a small business. You’ll make a lot more money in the long run.

Jim Jim was beaten to death by the Portland police last week.
September 17, 2006.

Unarmed
he was tazed, kicked in the head, beaten,
jumped on, and hog tied.
And then he “mysteriously” died in police custody.

The Sad Facts
Jim’s toxicology came back clean
no drugs – alcohol.
All 17 of his ribs were broken.
His lung was punctured.
He suffered head trauma from being kicked while he was on the ground.
He was not taken to a hospital, but to jail.
He died in the back of the squad car.

Medical Examiner Reports: James Chasse was bludgeoned to death.

Witnesses claim excessive force was used.

It would seem that the police would have known
that Jim Jim was disabled since he spent
so much time on the streets.

So far the PDX police claim that his death is
Justified!

He was a poet, artist and good friend.

I first met Jim Jim in late 1977 when he was 14.
He was amazingly intelligent and creative.

It is so rare to meet someone his age that
has such a depth of spirit and insight that age
has no boundaries or equations but gives you a
sense of timelessness.
It is hard to put into words without sounding metaphysical,
but in my mind I felt as if I was in the presence of someone
who had lived several very intense lifetimes.

We quickly became good friends and I introduced him to
many friends in PDX’s music flock, where he took root
and quickly became a part of many peoples lives.
He was loved by many and will be missed.

Jim Jim’s conversations with me and his powerful
sense of vision painted uncanny, powerful visions
in my head that became a huge influence for a few songs
that were later recorded for the “Is This Real?” LP.

Jim started to suffer from schizophrenia his late teens.
He started to live on the streets and grew distant
from his friends.

When he was around 17 or 18 he started telling me about
strange things he was starting to see and hear.
At first I didn’t think too much about it, thinking that
his powerful imagination might just be going
through a phase.
Also, it’s not uncommon for people with his level
of insight to be sort of a window or doorway
into another dimension.

In the early 70′s I worked at a downtown movie theater
that was haunted, but did not know it at the time I started

The person that I replaced told me of voices in his head
and soon after that went crazy and ended up
in a mental institution diagnosed with schizophrenia.

After working at the theater a few weeks I noticed
that some very strange events were occurring.

Soon after, I did some research and found that the
theater was build over a late 1800′s cemetery.
This made sense to me since there was more
than one spook hanging around.

If I didn’t have an understanding of the possibility of
other worlds or dimensions I might have gone
crazy myself.

Instead I played music for them on the theaters piano
and would not let anything they did get into my head.
I ignored most of their pranks
and they left me alone somewhat.

I wondered if the person I replaced really had a disorder
or was he driven crazy.
Who would ever believe you anyway!.
Whatever was haunting the theater defiantly tried
to get into your head.

In Jim Jim’s case, his mind was quickly taken over
and to this day I wonder if it was a disorder or
something else.

Hey folks,
This situation here with the Portland Police keeps repeating itself ad nauseum.

They have done this over and over again in the last half dozen years, and no matter how much coverage the cases get, or whatever the public outcry, the Grand Jury also aquits the cops of any wrong doing.

And what was Jim doing initially that the police decided that they needed to use what was obviously deadly force when he may have initially resisted arrest?

He was urinating behind a tree. Do you mean to tell me that those cops have never pee’ed behind a tree at some point in their life themselves??

WE ALL HAVE!! The difference is poor Jim was on the streets, and probably without the proper socially accepted attire for just receiving a ticket or warning for public urination.

If everyone who ever did this was killed as a result, it would be the end of our species.

What we need is an end to this re-occuring story of out-of-control Portland Police who over react and are zealous in their use of force, particulaly on minorities and/or the poor.

This situation is very heartbreaking and what makes it worst and insulting to humanity is “our” grand jury (who only listens to what the DA has to say in PRIVATE) gave a couple of “thug-rookie- cops” the right to beat up and KILL anyone they deem undesirable and get away with it- Legally!!!

Please if anyone has a way of spreading this story, please do. At least to make aware of how our justice system has treated an innocent human being.

This is unspeakably heartbreaking, but important to know.

Teresa sent me the coolest quote applicaple to everything going on right now: when it comes to the malfeasance and disregard for Katrina victims and the Ground Zero ill; to the fascism that’s creeping into our country with astonishing confidence: rigged elections; the vote challenges of black soldiers off fighting their war, the fact that war veterans who’ve returned home OWE the government money for fighting in the Iraqi war as well as coming home with Uranium poisoning passed on to their unborn children; the fact that the house just passed a bill allowing any teenager in a public highschool suspected of anything to be strip searched,

A bill approved by the U.S. House yesterday would require school districts around the country to establish policies making it easier for teachers and school officials to conduct wide scale searches of students. These searches could take the form of pat-downs, bag searches, or strip searches depending on how administrators interpret the law.

The Student Teacher Safety Act of 2006 (HR 5295) would require any school receiving federal funding–essentially every public school–to adopt policies allowing teachers and school officials to conduct random, warrantless searches of every student, at any time, on the flimsiest of pretexts. Saying they suspect that one student might have drugs could give officials the authority to search every student in the building.

DPA supporters and others who opposed this outrageous bill called their members of Congress this week to express their disapproval. However, House leaders circumvented the usual legislative procedure to bring the bill to a quick vote. It did not pass through the committee process, but went straight to the House floor. There, it was passed by a simple voice vote, so constituents cannot even find out how their Representative voted.

The bill moves next to the Senate, but it is unlikely to be considered there this session.

Bill Piper, DPA’s director of national affairs, said, “It looks like this bill was rushed to the House floor to help out the sponsor, Rep. Geoff Davis (R-KY/4th), who is in a tight re-election race. This vote lets him say he’s getting things done in Washington. But I would be surprised to see a similar push in the Senate.”

HR 5295 is opposed in its current form by several groups, including the Drug Policy Alliance, Students for Sensible Drug Policy, the ACLU, the American Federation of Teachers, the National Parent Teacher Association, the American Association of School Administrators, and the National School Boards Association.

DPA will be watching the bill so that if and when it does come up again, this wide array of opponents can mobilize to stop it.

The world needs to be aware that there are many human rights issues everywhere. I only wish I could help more. Please watch this movie , reenactment and documentary about the situation. I know that there are other issues in the world but I have chosen to post this because it has come to my attention and as I said I wish I could help even more but this is all I can do at this point. This girl was executed for alleged crimes against chastity. It is my hope that by pointing the finger at world authorities and demanding that they do something about this sort of barbaric and unacceptable behavior we can make change. Thank you for watching the movie.

A teenager who was stabbed in the eye during her school lunch break said a “gang mentality” singled out pupils for their music and fashion tastes.

The 15-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, narrowly escaped losing her sight in the attack last November.

She had been the victim of a string of attacks, threats and had even received prank calls at home because she is what is known as “a metaler”, Guildford Crown Court heard today.

But she said: “I mean, it’s this gang mentality that my generation seems to insist upon and I want to stop it.”

Watching the girl give evidence via video link, the jury heard how name-calling in the school canteen had escalated into an attack on the school playing fields.

Mimicking and threatening the girl while queuing to get into the canteen, the three defendants, all pupils at the same school, asked around for a pair of scissors with which they said they would cut off their victim’s long hair, the court has heard.

The court was told they later approached her as she chatted with friends outside the school science block and one of the three girls launched the attack, stabbing her a number of times with the sharp scissor blades.

Truthfully (and I’m only speaking about NY where I’m very familiar with what is reported in the local media) Black children, black girls and black women being abducted or being murdered is NEVER big news. White children, girls and women go missing and it’s all over the front page and local news.
A couple of years ago a beautiful happy young black bride to be just vanished, steps away from her intended’s parents house, the family begged the local television and newspaper media to help. Television and newspaper media were not interested. They only reported on the story (ONCE that I’m aware of) after her body was found, a week later. Had the media been interested she might’ve been found alive who knows. Meanwhile around the same time a young white woman went missing -front page news and local tv every day publicizing it, demanding justice and after her body was found the media still demanded answers…….It’s just plain wrong that, because of my skin color, my disapearance would garner mainstream media attention and any female with a different skin tone would not merit the same or maybe any attention ……..Until it’s too late, and then only slightly. This girl, Chanel Petro-Nixon’s disapearance was NOT really reported when it happened. It IS a matter of valuing one person’s life over another based on skin color, and even if we don’t actually have a hand in any direct racism regarding these matters, we do have a hand in letting it prevail. Friends and family call Chanel Petro-Nixon the “perfect” kid. She got straight A’s, went to church every Sunday, and lit up a room with her smile.
The question detectives now have is, who would want to see her dead?

On Father’s Day of 2006, Chanel left her home in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn to walk down the street to meet a friend and then go to a job interview at Applebees. She wanted to get a summer job — and she had the interview all lined up. But, she never made it to the restaurant — or to meet her friend. A few days later, Chanel’s strangled body was found in a trash bag, just blocks from her home.

The startling and downright scary part for investigators: no one is telling them anything. Chanel went missing on an extremely busy stretch of road in Brooklyn in broad daylight. Dozens of people were most likely sitting on stoops in front of their homes or shopping across the street at a line of stores. But so far, no witnesses can be found. And it’s not for lack of trying. Detectives have put in thousands of hours searching for whoever killed Chanel. But so far, police haven’t been able to find a motive for the crime. They haven’t even been able to find anyone who disliked Chanel.

Mystery: Three Days, No Chanel

Another puzzling part for detectives: the timeline of this case. Chanel left her home around 6:00 pm on Sunday July 18, 2006. Her body was found on July 22, 2006 around 8:30am. The Medical Examiner puts her time of death at less than 24 hours before she was found. The question: where was she between the time she left her home and the time she was killed?

That’s more than 48 hours unaccounted for. Was Chanel kidnapped and taken somewhere and tortured? The torture part is unlikely because when Chanel was found she wasn’t sexually assaulted and had no marks on her body. Was she taken somewhere and locked in a room for two days before she was killed? And, where was she strangled?

These are all questions NYPD detectives are struggling to answer. You can’t go anywhere in Brooklyn without seeing posters that scream “Somebody Knows Something.” But so far, people are silent.
